They see me rollin…

Posted in Art, Music, Photography by Jonathan Tanners on March 8, 2010

…they hatin, patrollin, tryna catch me ridin dirty…

But they won’t catch your boy. No sir.

Forgive the temporary insanity and randomness. Longer, far more coherent (but no less insane) pieces coming soon. More music in the near future. More film. More, more, more. Prepare your minds. Pimped out ride spotted at Do While.

Demons and Curses

Just watched Drag Me to Hell. Didn’t warrant a Film Stills post. This image is not from the film. But it’s cool. Don’t spend an hour and half watching Drag Me to Hell. Go outside and play before it gets too cold. Or watch The Proposition. I promise it’s great.

Or if you want to be scared, there’s always the best horror movie you didn’t know was the basis for Quarantine. You should probably see that too.

Bruno Levy

Posted in Art, Film, Photography by Jonathan Tanners on November 27, 2009

The other night, my boy Mikey put me on to photographer, tattoo artist, and Buddhist NYU Graduate Bruno Levy. A fascinating, nomadic character with some very dope art to his credit. Enjoy these two videos displaying his talents, one involving the development of a crazy new video projection technology, the other involving creepy masks.

31st Century graffiti below, nightmares and light trails after the break.

Everything in LA ain’t always what it seems…

Posted in Photography by Jonathan Tanners on November 27, 2009

Some photos from a recent excursion to LA by my boy Sam Barrocas from Vermont. LA may be the city of dreams, but Vermont is the home of cheddar, white kids who love Wu Tang, old hippies, and dope photographers. I should probably live in Vermont.

And also the only friend I have who’s been on the Sartorialist.

As always, you can be perplexed, put down, and fascinated by Jesse and the entire CBD family over at the Create Build Destroy blog.

NYSAT2

Posted in Art, Photography by Gaia on October 26, 2009

NYSAT2 struck the streets of New York yesterday morning, whitewashing over 100 illegal street level billboard advertisements and adorning them with work from various artists. Despite intense NPA harassment and a major police crackdown that resulted in a few arrests, it seems that every artist had the chance to at least get their work up for a few hours. Unfortunately, NPA made a tremendous effort to reclaim all of their space so I think it is safe to say that nothing has lasted into this morning. But fear not, the whole process was documented so incredibly well that it was staggering. Here is the flickr account from last year! http://www.flickr.com/photos/37774782@N05

For a more detailed account of the activities yesterday, check out the New York Times article that ran in the paper today in the New York Region section written by reporter  COLIN MOYNIHAN who I had the pleasure of rolling with most of the day.  And of course http://www.publicadcampaign.com/ will be releasing more in depth coverage and documentation.

Joe Sturm’s Paper Planes

Posted in Photography by Gaia on October 25, 2009

Joe Sturm’s photo blog Paper Planes, consists entirely of his dope and beautiful disposable camera pictures documenting his various adventures. Most of the material captures moments in Baltimore and New York. I wish I had a link to that I could direct you to his paintings and prints, but this wonderful site is definitely worth checking out.

King Me: Dan Wickerham and Malcolm Lomax at the Open Space

Posted in Art, Photography by Gaia on October 23, 2009

A little more than a week ago, Dan Wickerham and Malcolm Lomax came together for a collaborative exhibition for Open Space’s second show. The statement that supplemented the event on facebook read as such:

Bibs. Hand smeared rags. Fragrant flyers passed out by muscles. And Creative Hangovers. The work attemps to repackage a set of motifs: black pretzels, leisure, work and labor, vacations, journals, morning preparation, transparent Casper, work clothes, sweet and salty sex, image as sculpture, masks, soaps, snacks as lunches, beards, bugs, and hot showers.
Baguettes, broom handles, grommeted belts, cool whip, doggy doors, lipstick, red bull caves, gold balls, silver birds, bronze lids, caged bird, hood ornaments, pin stripped suits, streetwear, weather vain, pizza delivery. Basically, the works are tarred and feathered.
